Cold days, warm days and nice visits

Well, we've had some really cold nights here last week....and then some cool days. It got down in the 20's two nights....brrrr....but that only lasted about four days thankfully! Tuesday it was 80 degrees by 1 PM and has been in the 70's since Sunday...so it's all good. We're hearing that it's been quite nice in Virginia, so we sure hope it stays warm there!

Last week we had the chance to meet up with some friends from Virginia; Evelyn was our wonderful neighbor at the river for several years and we are always glad to see her. Evelyn and Charles taught Bob and I to play "Hand and Foot" with Skipbo cards, at the river many years ago, and we have had fun playing it ever since. (Now all of you know the origins of this game we have so much fun with...how many have learned this game since then???)

Evelyn's son Chuck, and his wife, Donna, have a place in Fort Meyer's, and she came down for a visit. It was decided we would meet in Sarasota for lunch. The day turned out to be the first rainy day we have had, but it was still great to see and visit with these fine folks!

Sarasota is such a lovely bayside city....we drove around to St. Armand's Circle with it's many lovely shops and noticed a statue on the bayside that was not there on our last visit.....

"Unconditional Surrender; The Kiss", a giant statue of the sailor kissing a nurse, depicting the photo taken in Times Square on VJ Day. It is on loan, towering over Sarasota's bayfront and will remain there through the end of March. It was originally placed in Times Square to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. Standing 25 feet tall, it is made of aluminum and reputed to withstand Category 3 hurricane force winds. A private donor made it possible to have this statue placed here, and they are working on plans to keep it on the shore of Sarasota Bay permanently.
It was a lovely day, despite the rain!

I guess you showed Paul and Connie how to play Hand & Foot and they taught us. You also taught Bill and Lesle and last night here in Reddick we all taught friends of Bill and Lesle's, Peter and Pam. Who knows how many couples now play from your first learning the game. It sure is fun. Bobbie

Looking forward to seeing you both in Kerrville. Chuck needs a refresher course on hand & foot, he tried to teach a few of us, but no luck. See ya soon, Roadkill
