Heading west....and a visit with Grannie

This morning found us leaving the Farm in Montpelier around 7:20. We were Westbound on I 64 towards Roanoke, VA for a visit with my mom. Grannie moved to her apartment in Westwood at Friendship Manor in Roanoke, two years ago when we finally convinced her to give up her home in Richmond. It is a lovely place, and we think she secretly likes it there, but she still insists that we "forced" her to move and she reminds us of it frequently!!

We arrived at her building shortly before 11 AM and she walked out to meet us and show us her garden spot. The Manor has little garden spaces for the use of the residents, and even though Mom is physically unable to do the gardening herself, my sister, Wanda, agreed to plant and maintain a small garden for Mom. It is lovely and Mom is enjoying it very much. They have fresh lettuce and onions for harvesting right now, and tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, beans and potatoes for later.

Then it was a walk out to the Rose Garden and then out to lunch. We spent most of the day with Grannie and had a very nice visit with her.

We left the Manor around 4 pm and headed West on I 81. After driving several hours we then stopped for the night in Knoxville, TN, at the Gatlinburg exit. We will go on to Nashville tomorrow and plan to stop at the Camping World and to eat at the Cock of the Walk.....catfish, shrimp, greens n' beans and hot cornmeal cakes...Yum Yum good eats!! (Tiff and Paul, do you remember eating there as kids when we went to Gatlinburg and Opryland, and how they threw the corn cakes out of the skillets?)

Hugs to everyone!
